Genesis 3:15 – The First Prophecy of Jesus and the Defeat of Satan

Did you know that the very first prophecy about Jesus is found in Genesis 3:15, right after Adam and Eve sinned? This verse, often called the "Protoevangelium" (the first gospel), contains God’s promise of a future Savior who would crush Satan’s power.

The Curse on the Serpent and the Promise of a Savior

After Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the Lord pronounced judgments, including a curse on the serpent (Satan):

> "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." (Genesis 3:15, NIV)

Here, God foretells a spiritual battle between Satan and humanity—but with a promise: One of Eve’s descendants would ultimately defeat the serpent.

Three Key Truths from This Prophecy:

1. ✅ The Serpent’s Curse Pointed to a Coming Savior

   - The "offspring" (or "seed") of the woman refers to a future deliverer.

   - This was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ, born of a woman (Galatians 4:4) without the seed of a man (virgin birth, Isaiah 7:14).

2. ✅ Jesus Crushed Satan’s Power Through His Death and Resurrection

   - Satan "struck His heel" (a temporary wound) when Jesus was crucified.

   - But Jesus "crushed the serpent’s head" (a fatal blow) by defeating sin and death through His resurrection (Romans 16:20; Hebrews 2:14).

3. ✅ God’s Redemptive Plan Was Set in Motion from the Beginning

   - Even in humanity’s darkest moment, God revealed His plan of salvation.

   - This promise unfolds throughout Scripture, culminating in Revelation 12:9-11, where Satan is finally cast down forever.

Conclusion: The Victory Is Already Won!

From Genesis to Revelation, we see God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promise. Jesus, the promised Seed, has defeated Satan, and through Him, we have eternal victory!

> "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you." (Romans 16:20)

What an amazing truth—salvation was God’s plan from the very beginning!
